Set in the American South, the film Vampires of the Velvet Lounge follows Countess Elizabeth Báthory (Mena Suvari) and her coven of vampires, including Joan (India Eisley) who operate of a hidden absinthe bar where they lure in unsuspecting lonely victims they meet through dating apps and drain them to maintain their youth. When they target the wrong matches and cross paths with an undercover vampire hunter and a group of unsuspecting male targets who disrupt the plan, the coven’s routine begins to unravel, leading to a chaotic night of escalating violence, fangs, and green-winged fairies inside the bar.

Suvari and Eisley spoke with SciFi Vision about what drew them to Vampires of the Velvet Lounge and why the script felt different from typical horror material, working with blood effects, and more. Vampires of the Velvet Lounge is now in theaters.

In DRAGN, Tom Wilson (James Paxton) takes his family to Serbia to fill in for his boss at what he expects to be a routine team-building retreat in the remote forest, but after meeting with the head of the company, Petros (Alex Lane), things quickly go from bad to much worse when he and a group of colleagues from different branches of the company end up being hunted by a rogue AI-driven drone.

Recently, stars Paxton and Lane, who also produced the film and wrote the script, spoke with SciFi Vision to break down the movie, including their characters, stunts, practical effects, AI themes, and more.

Based on David Morrell’s 2005 novel Creepers, the supernatural horror-thriller Do Not Enter follows a group of thrill-seeking urban explorers who love taking things to the extreme and recording it for social media for the world to see. After a disagreement between members that ends one of them leaving the group, the four friends who stayed, including Rick (Jake Manley), his girlfriend Diane (Adeline Rudolph), Cora (Francesca Reale), and Vernon (Shane Paul McGhie), decide they need to do something big. With its past of supposed ghosts and a rumored $300 millions stashed in the abandoned building, New Jersey’s Paragon Hotel is the perfect place for their next livestreaming stunt in order to increase their fanbase. Ignoring the warnings, the Creepers, with the addition of reporter Frank Balenger (Laurence O’Fuarain), who they think can help grow their online fame, break into the hotel and have to contend with not only deadly rivals, but supernatural creatures that stalk them from the shadows.

Stars Manley, Rudolph, and Francesca recently spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film, including filming locations, rehearsing together, stunt work, and more.

Lachman recently spoke with SciFi Vision about her experience filming the movie, including her excitement to be back in vampire world again, working with blood effects, building the character through voice, and more, as well as about the challenge of playing multiple versions of the same character across projects like Severance and Dollhouse, and how she relies on physical cues like body tension and movement to separate each version in her performance.

In the film Protector, Nikki (Milla Jovovich), a decorated former soldier, has tried to leave combat behind and build a quiet life with her teenage daughter Chloe (Isabel Myers), but their fragile peace is fractured when Chloe is abducted by a human trafficking ring. As Nikki follows the limited clues she has into the city’s criminal underworld, she leaves death in her wake. Her ruthless methods and military training bring her into conflict with both the traffickers and law enforcement, drawing the attention of a determined police chief, Captain Miller (D.B. Sweeney), who puts her at the top of his wanted list as she races against time to find her child while avoiding the local police.

Recently, Sweeney spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film, including how the biggest draw was to work with Matthew Modine again, how he preps for his roles, and more.

Today, the final season of Outlander premieres on Starz. As season eight starts, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitríona Balfe) discover that after leaving the Revolutionary War behind them, things have changed when they return to Fraser’s Ridge. With all these changes they have to decide what they are willing to give up for the place they call home, even as it changes, and what they will give up to stay together. Also, family secrets are revealed that may break them. When Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) return with information from the future, it could mean death for one of the characters.

Alongside the central couples, the story highlights the next generation as Young Ian (John Bell) and Rachel Murray (Izzy Meikle-Small) begin building a life together at Fraser’s Ridge, welcoming the next generation of the Murray family, a sign of hope for the future even as the world around them becomes increasingly unstable.

Recently, Bell and Meikle-Small spoke with SciFi Vision about how becoming parents changes their characters, whether they were given or took anything from the set to remember their time on the series by, and how their lives have changed since starting work on the series.

In the film Protector, which premieres today in theaters, Milla Jovovich stars as Nikki, a veteran war hero who thought she left her violent past behind her on the battlefield, but her peaceful life is upended when her daughter, Chloe (Isabel Myers), is kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, and she must venture into the city’s criminal underworld to find and save her. As she tears through the crime syndicate using her training, leaving a trail of death in her wake, her mission becomes even more difficult as she attracts the attention of the police and military and must avoid them in her pursuit. As the local authorities, led by Captain Michaels (D.B. Sweeney), try to bring her in, Nikki’s former commanding officer (Matthew Modine) sums it up: he doesn’t need to protect Nikki from the criminals; he needs to protect them from her.

In a recent interview with SciFi Vision, Jovovich and Meyers opened up about what drew them to the project.

“[W]hen I got this script, it really resonated with me as a parent,” Jovovich told the site. “To be a mother of three girls and to know how human trafficking is such a problem, that it just keeps growing.”

The actress added that she felt like no one was making movies about the topic. “That's why I wanted to come in as a producer,” explained Jovovich, saying that it wasn’t just about streamlining the script. “[It was also to] make sure that once I was done filming as an actor, I had control of how the rest of the movie was going to be edited, scored, color graded, just to make sure that the subject matter was dealt with in the most sort of respectful way possible.”

Jovovich also liked that even though the film has violence and is exciting, it also has “heart and soul”.

From Guy Ritchie, who also directed the two films based on the detective, comes Young Sherlock. This installment, which takes place in Victorian England, follows a younger, disgraced Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin), who after meeting none other than James Moriarty (Dónal Finn), ends up entangled in a murder investigation that threatens his freedom.

While inspired by the Andrew Lane novel series of the same name, the Prime Video series is not a direct adaptation, according to showrunner Matthew Parkhill. “I was like, ‘Look, I kind of want to start in a different place,’ because Andy’s Sherlock is a sort of 14-year-old schoolboy,” he explained to SciFi Vision. “…[t]he things I was interested in exploring needed to start with him older and in a different place.”

The showrunner admitted that he worried about creating a series based around the Arthur Conan Doyle character given how popular it is. “I had to find a way to sort of give myself permission or a creative liberty.” He went on to say that they did not touch anything after Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet. “I want to honor the books, because I love the books, but because we're dealing with Sherlock in a different phase of his life, we had to come up with something that was different that will lead into the books but isn't the books,” said Parkhill. “That, that for me gave me a sense of freedom that allowed me to breathe and to have some fun and to play in rather than being governed too much by the terror.”

Season two of the Apple TV series Hijack follows corporate negotiator Sam Nelson, who becomes involved in another crisis, this time on a U-Bahn train in Berlin. He is pushed to the center of the hijacking after criminals threaten his ex-wife, Marsha Smith-Nelson (Christine Adams). German police attempt to negotiate with Nelson, all while monitoring the train, but eventually, thanks in part to the investigative work of Olivia Thatcher (Clare-Hope Ashitey) and British intelligence officer Peter Faber (Toby Jones), they realize his hand was forced.

Recently, co-creator, executive producer, and director Jim Field Smith, spoke with SciFi Vision about creating the claustrophobia and tension for the series, and how they had to create a full one-to-one replica of the Berlin train interior that had to move in order to do so.
