In this week’s episode of FROM, Julie (Hannah Cheramy) gains some new insight when she and Randall (A.J. Simmons) read some of Ethan (Simon Webster)’s books on time travel, learning a new way to potentially control where she ends up. However, when Julie arrives at the massacre in 1978, things don’t go as expected. Cheramy, who spoke with SciFi Vision last week, talked about the experience of filming that scene. “That was an insane day,” said the actress. “It was a big mix of like, prop bodies, but then we had actual people laying in the streets just soaked in blood.” Cheramy also really liked how they dressed the set. “I loved how much they changed the town, all of the little details…They changed a lot to make to show that it's the past.”

The actress also talked about Julie’s drive this season to help her father “Her faith is really questioned this season,” she explained. “…[S]he starts with this place [of] being so determined, but a lot of that comes from just like, she's in so much denial about the loss of her father that, to her, it's almost like he's not even dead.” The actress added that Julie doesn’t know how but thinks she will figure it out, even when everyone around her doesn’t think it’s possible.

One of those characters of course is Randall, who’s been helping Julie out with the storywalking and has become almost like a big brother to Julie. “I love acting with AJ. It’s super cool working with him,” said Cheramy of Simmons.

SCIFI VISION:   To start off, you story walk right into the massacre. Talk about that experience, just walking into all the all the fake dead bodies and the Man in Yellow munching on them. Yeah, talk about that.

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Yeah, that was an insane day. It was a big mix of like, prop bodies. But then we had actual people laying in the streets just soaked in blood. And it was such a hot day, and they're just like laying there all day. I would like, try to just stand and shadow them. I was like, “I'm so sorry. It's so warm, and you're just covered in thick, hot blood.” But yeah, that was wild. It was so scary. And I loved how much they changed the town, all of the little details that I'm sure people online will go in and like, be like, “this is different. This is different. This is different.” Yeah, they changed it. They changed a lot to make to show that it's the past.

SCIFI VISION:   She’s so adamant that she can save her father. Talk about sort of keeping that faith and if there's anything that can break it, because I'm worried she's going to continue and do something reckless that could hurt her or her brother or somebody else.

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Yeah, her faith is really questioned this season. And as episodes go on, you know, she starts with this place being so determined, but a lot of that comes from just like, she's in so much denial about the loss of her father that, to her, it's almost like he's not even dead. It’s like, yes, she just saw his body, and it was horrible. It's terrifying, but she's so like, “I can get him back. I can fix it.” And she doesn't know how, but she's going to figure it out. So, when everyone sort of around her is telling her like, “No, no, you can't,” Ethan saying you can't change your story once it's been told,” Randall eventually saying, you know, like, “You need to snap out of this,” giving her like a reality check, it's like, yeah, it just it's really questioned her determination in herself.

SCIFI VISION:   Talk about her friendship with Randall this season, because you've got sort of a brother, sister thing going on, and he's really helping out.

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Yeah, it's been so awesome. I love acting with AJ. It’s super cool working with him. And it's really fun being a little sister. Like, Julie's always the big sister. “Come on, Ethan, I'll take care of you. I'll take care of Ethan.” But now, it's like, she gets to be la bit of a little shit with him. And it's great, like, you know, this season where she's like, “Okay, you have to promise. No, you have to promise.” It’s like, the little sister dynamic is it's really fun to play with.

SCIFI VISION:   Well, that's the fun part, but talk about playing all the grief and trauma and getting sort of into that mindset of it.

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Yeah, I mean, it's obviously very difficult, because Julie is experiencing so many different emotions. Like, yes, there's grief, but it's, you know, as I said, like denial and all that, all that jazz. But yeah, just lots of putting myself in her shoes and how she might feel. I'm really trying to ground myself as her on the days of like, heavy emotional scenes.

SCIFI VISION:   Do you think she's changed a lot because of losing her father, just in general?

HANNAH CHERAMY:   100% Yeah, I mean, losing her father is going to send her down. Like, if she was going like this, now she's going like this, you know, like, she's on a completely different path than she would be if she never lost him.

SCIFI VISION:   Who do you want to have scenes with that you haven't really gotten many with? I know you have some different ones this season, but [who are] some of the ones you'd like to get to work with?

HANNAH CHERAMY:   I'd love to have more scenes with Sophia. I would love to have more of that like, antagonizing relationship and like, really butt heads, like that would be really cool. And it would be cool if Julie was leading this trail of like, “I don't trust this girl. I don't like this girl.” I think that would be like, a cool thing for her [unintelligible] then to deal with drama.

SCIFI VISION:   I was going to say, I think you're the only one that's gotten to work with both versions of the Man in Yellow.

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Oh my god. Yeah. True. So true.

SCIFI VISION:   Are you somebody who likes to try to make up theories like us crazy people that watch the show?

HANNAH CHERAMY:   Honestly, I am just truly not smart enough, like, and it sucks to say, but like, my brain cannot like, come up with that. Like, I see what's on the paper. I see what's in the show, and I'm just waiting until they tell me, because I can't, like, I don't know, people are so smart. They’re like, “Oh, this ancient mythology from this one culture.” I'm like, “I've never even heard of that before.” And it's like, “if you position the body in a certain way, it's the same position as Jade when he's in the…” I'm like, “What?” Like, I never even heard of that. So, I'm just, so I'm not in touch enough to figure that out.

SCIFI VISION:   Well, you might, the more you go on, you know. I still got a season left, right?

HANNAH CHERAMY:   I'll read a couple more books, and then I'll get back to you.
